WHAT'S NEW - First Option launches Risk Management of Productions course

First Option launches Risk Management of Productions course

Producers who have responsibility for health and safety can now take our new Risk Management of Productions (RMP) course which replaces the Safe Management of Productions course. This new course is designed to equip responsible producers with the health, safety and environmental knowledge production staff at all levels of responsibility need to make content safely.

The RMP course retains the key health and safety content but has been expanded to cover non-physical risks such as mental health, wellbeing and resilience. It is recognised that mental health and issues arising from workplace culture and practice have become acute issues and this course discusses the key approaches in dealing with these critical risk areas, as well as covering the more traditional risk areas.

The RMP course will use interactive session and multimedia presentation, review of real life incidents, syndicate exercises, group participation and discussion to identify the key areas of risk management and suggest practical methods of tackling them.

The course concentrates on the key aspects of risk managing a production, including:

  • Roles and responsibilities in programme making, both within the production team and those outside
  • The potential pitfalls of poor risk management and how these may impact upon the programme making process
  • Application of risk management principles using real-life case study examples
  • How to establish and maintain control through clearly defined occupational risk roles and responsibilities

This course aims to give:

  • A broad overview of the risk management issues to be considered during the making of programmes, including hazard identification, risk assessment and good health, safety and environmental management
  • The opportunity to analyse and discuss the risk management techniques used on production including hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Discussion of good health and safety management on location
  • Information about risk management policy and procedures, including how productions should interact with their contractors and others
  • An understanding of the legal framework
